Overview

Responsibilities
GENERAL SUMMARY : As supervisor of Trauma Services staff, provides
leadership, accountability and responsibility for services in
collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director. Responsibilities
include coordination of clinical care across the continuum, quality
management, fiscal analysis of the patient population, and systems
analysis. Acts as a role model and change agent by initiating and
accepting changes for improved patient care and cost reductions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Supervises Trauma Services personnel, providing overall
direction of daily activities, performance evaluation, education
and support.
- Develops, implements and periodically reviews all policies,
procedures and guidelines that support the trauma service. These
include, but are not limited to, Joint Commission requirements,
national (American College of Surgeons) and state (IDPH)
regulations, regulatory standards, etc.
- Performance Improvement: continuously assesses and improves the
service's performance based on, but not limited to, quality
management plan, clinical indicators and customer/employee
satisfaction data.
- Accountable for the Trauma Registry ensuring completion of data
collection and entry, injury coding and scoring, validation of data
and report distribution.
- Participates in the development of the annual operating and
capital budget. Utilizes budget information in management
decision-making.
- Develops an annual operational plan (including scope of
service) integrated with Mercy's strategic plan and related
departments' operational plans in order to efficiently provide
services.
- Participates in state and national professional and related
organizations to ensure current knowledge of trauma service
operations.
- Acts as a liaison to local and state agencies regarding trauma
issues, serving on state-wide trauma committees as needed.
- Interfaces with the multi-disciplinary care team, maintaining
open and positive communication with staff, physicians, and other
hospital departments while serving as a resource and consultant in
trauma care.
- Assists with trauma educational activities, including TNCC,
ATLS, ATCN and other professional outreach programs.
- Participates in community education and prevention
activities.
- Integrates current trauma research findings into practice.
- Performs other responsibilities as requested by Administrator
Emergency / Trauma.
Qualifications
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
- Possession of a current or compact state license as a
registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
- Bachelors of Nursing degree or related field required; Master's
degree preferred.
- Three years trauma nursing experience required.
- Critical care nursing experience preferred.
- Certification in critical care, emergency nursing, or other
relevant specialty area preferred.
Pay Range
$29.02 - $42.08 /hour
