Job Description:
Overview:Supports the delivery of quality medical record
services, by accurately performing coding and sequencing on all
assigned records. Correctly completes an abstract and / or audit
for assigned patients including operative report review. Provides
support for appeals to insurance companies and government agencies
regarding financial exclusions.This position is primarily remote,
but does involve some in person meetings with providers as needed
based on audits and or when onboarding new providers. In person
meetings will be located on the Des Moines campus.Why UnityPoint

ability to consistently meet the department work schedule.
Accurately codes and sequences identified diagnosis and procedures
on charge tickets. Audits physician medical records and determine
appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes. Provide coding education
to professional staff that will increase the billing effectiveness
and compliance. Maintains charge ticket templates. Acts as the
liaison between BHP and insurance and government payers for appeal
processes.Qualifications:Education: High School diploma or
equivalent. Completion of nationally recognized Coding Program
(AHIMA/AAPC).Experience: Prior experience in medical coding of
professional charges required and experience in pediatric specialty
coding and documentation guidelines or willingness to learn.
Working knowledge of medical terminology
preferred.License(s)/Certification(s): Valid driver's license when
driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. CPC (Certified
Professional Coder) through American Academy of Professional Coders
OR CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist - Professional) through
American Health Information Management Association OR CPMA
(Certified Professional Medical Auditor) through American Health
Information Management Association.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Research and critical thinking skills needed to review, interpret,
and teach payor policies and related reference materials. Working
knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid policies regarding documentation
guidelines, teaching physician guidelines. Inpatient/outpatient
surgical, psychological/psychiatric documentation guidelines.
Demonstrated ability to use reference books and
