- QuestionsJob DescriptionThe Iowa Department of Public Health
(IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1,
2022 to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human
Services (HHS). We are seeking a Nurse Supervisor to join our Team.
This job is located in Woodward, Iowa. Woodward is 35 minutes away
from Ames and 34 minutes to Des Moines. Description of work:
Provides direct supervision to a team of PM and Night LPNs and RNs.
Will maintain the PM and NOC nurse schedule, and coordinate
staffing on the PM and NOC shift in coordination with the
Administrator of Nursing and the Medical Center Supervisor. Will
monitor daily work assignments and adjust work assignments as
needed. Will complete annual evaluations on employees. Will help
coordinate training as indicated. Schedules subordinates for
required training through Staff Development and provides training
of protocols/procedures and on the job training to new nursing
staff. Will maintain thorough chronological information on
employees under their direct supervision. Provides and coordinates
annual nurse skill training. Provides required training annually to
direct care staff. Follow up of medication variances with the
assigned nurses and develops action plans to prevent future
medication variances. Reviews all nursing assignments in accordance
with the Iowa nurse Practice Act. Works with outside vendors
regarding specialized equipment and training needs. Will provide
nurse staffing coverage as needed. Will communicate with
Interdisciplinary teams in an effective manner and conduct all
interactions in a professional manner. Provide Nursing consultation
as needed. Will update policies and procedure as assigned. Will
assist in teaching and providing clinical instruction for Certified
Medication Aides. Will provide competency-based training of support
plans to interdisciplinary staff. In collaboration with the Nurse
Educator, and staff development, provide quarterly code blue
drills, and perform follow up debriefings for both drills and
actual code blue calls. Identified corrective actions will be
initiated and completed according to established time frames.
Provide community training, i.e., student nurses, pharmacy
students. Provide nursing consultation and direct services as needs
arise. Will represent the Nursing department on the Physical
Nutritional Management Core Team. Participate in all core and house
team meetings unless otherwise excused. Will provide PNM monitoring
to assigned individuals and provide assessment of individuals at
risk for aspiration and pneumonia as needed. Arranges continuing
education opportunities, and coordinates trainings with the
Administrator of Nursing. Other duties as assigned. We have a great

Qualification RequirementsGraduation from an accredited college or
university with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and experience equal
to one year of full-time clinical nursing experience in a
correctional environment or in mental health/psychiatrics,
pediatrics, geriatrics, or intellectual disability;ORgraduation
from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in
Nursing;ORan equivalent combination of the required education and
experience, substituting one year of full-time experience for
thirty semester hours or equivalent of education; with no
substitution for the one year of full-time experience in a
correctional environment or in mental health, psychiatrics,
pediatrics, geriatrics, or intellectual disability.For additional
