Overview

Responsibilities

  • Assesses plans and implements nursing care for vascular access patients while ensuring patient comfort. -
  • Functions as an expert nurse while observing practices associated with insertion, care, and maintenance of central venous, midline, and peripheral catheters
  • Proficient with aseptic techniques, including setting up and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Collects and analyzes outcome data related to bloodstream infections. Provides status reports to nursing staff, providers and the Infection Control Committee.
  • Administers nursing care to both acute and ambulatory patients including assessment, planning, implementation of vascular access orders in coordination with providers. Interacts with patients, both pre and post vascular access insertion procedures. Anticipates, identifies, and provides patient/family or caregiver education and counseling related to vascular access catheters.
  • Gives appropriate hand off reports to other departments to ensure and maintain continuum of care. Maintains open and positive communication with staff, providers, and other departments. -
  • Presents a positive image to community and professional contacts.
  • Utilizes hospital/department information systems to process data and retrieve patient information. Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patient's records.
  • Triages patients; and problem solves with staff, providers, patients, families and other departments/nursing areas.
    Qualifications
    • Possession of a current or compact state licensure as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa
    • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter - Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire
    • Minimum of 1 year current registered nurse - preferred
    • Certified Registered Nurse in Infusion (CRNI) preferred
