8 is a 23 bed Medical Surgical unit that provides an enriching
learning experience while caring for patients with a variety of
diagnoses specializing in pulmonary conditions. Younker 8 offers

multidisciplinary care team to practice at the top of their scope -
leveraging your unique skills, training, and an RN in this care
model, there is a built-in clinical ladder to support your career
goals. This includes the potential for leadership and growth by
working in different roles within the model by being an Attending
or Lead Nurse. As an RN in this care model, you will provide care
for a specified group of patients, utilizing all the skills you
have gained in obtaining your license. With the support of team
members within the care group, you will perform tasks or skills
within your scope of practice, including but not limited to:
- Provide safe and reliable patient centered care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
- Manage care of patients and ensure the completion of
assessments and vital signs.
- Administer medications as ordered by the provider.
- Complete bedside procedures (e.g., foley insertion, NG,
dressing changes, drains, etc.).
- Provide evidenced-based patient education starting at time of
admission.
- Document daily progress toward care plan goals.
- Round with providers and notify them of patient updates or
obtain orders as appropriate.
- Complete discharge education and review instructions with
patient and/or caregivers.

- Provides and coordinates nursing care to patients utilizing the
nursing process.
- Completes documentation to assure an accurate record of
patient's care.
- Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments, and
maintains responsibility for the knowledge of conditions of
assigned patients.
- Collaborates with physicians and other professionals in
planning and implementing care within hospital policy and legal
limitations.
- Assesses needs of patients and families, provides appropriate
teaching to facilitate discharge planning, and makes the necessary
referrals to community agencies to provide continuity of care.
- Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical,
psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria)
appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned
service area.
- Demonstrates initiative to improve quality of care, patient and
employee safety, and customer service.QualificationsEducation:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing
approved nursing program. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is
preferred. Qualifications: Current active Iowa License to practice
as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of six months RN experience.
Department of Labor Level III (Medium) Work. Candidates must
successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment strength and
agility test at Medium Level of Work. ***PLEASE NOTE: All newly
licensed RNs with less than six months of RN experience and who are
interested in this department or any other Acute RN role within
UnityPoint Health - Des Moines, are encouraged and required to
participate in the RN Residency program. Newly licensed nurses must
apply for the Registered Nurse Residency position. For more
