Job Description Cloud Platform Engineer (AWS) Des Moines, IA | Onsite We are partnering with a large, mission-driven organization to bring on a Cloud Platform Engineer who will play a key role in modernizing critical infrastructure that supports high-impact public-facing systems. This is an opportunity to work on meaningful technology initiatives that directly impact communities, while helping shape the future of hybrid cloud environments at scale. What You’ll Be Doing You will work alongside senior engineers to support and evolve a modern cloud platform that connects AWS and on-prem systems into a seamless, scalable environment. This role blends hands-on engineering, problem solving, and strategic input across cloud architecture, automation, and performance optimization. Key responsibilities include: Build and manage AWS environments supporting enterprise applications Design hybrid cloud solutions that integrate identity, authentication, and application services across platforms Lead efforts to migrate legacy systems into modern AWS-based architectures Create clear architecture diagrams and documentation for systems, dependencies, and data flow Troubleshoot complex cloud and hybrid issues across networking, IAM, and compute layers Improve system reliability by eliminating single points of failure and strengthening disaster recovery strategies Monitor and optimize performance across compute, storage, and network infrastructure Identify cost savings opportunities through rightsizing, storage optimization, and automation Partner with engineering teams to improve system performance, scalability, and efficiency Support infrastructure automation using Terraform and CI/CD pipelines Maintain detailed documentation for architecture, operations, and deployment processes Ensure security best practices including IAM controls, encryption, and network segmentation Support audit readiness through documentation, logs, and evidence collection What We’re Looking For 5 years of experience working with AWS in enterprise environments Strong experience with EC2, VPC, IAM, and S3 Proven ability to support hybrid cloud environments connecting on-prem and cloud systems Experience migrating legacy systems to AWS and building modernization roadmaps Solid troubleshooting skills across networking, identity, and infrastructure layers Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices Strong documentation skills and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly Nice to have: Experience with Ansible or other automation tools Strong understanding of AWS IAM and role-based access control Exposure to cost optimization and FinOps practices Additional Details Long-term contract opportunity with potential for extension Work involves systems supporting public safety initiatives Candidates must be able to pass enhanced background checks and fingerprinting prior to starting Why This Role Stands Out High visibility work supporting critical systems Opportunity to influence modernization of legacy infrastructure Collaborative team environment with strong engineering leadership A chance to work on projects that have real-world impact
