Job Title: Electrical BIM/VDC Technician

Reports to: Director of Engineering and Design Services

Location: Des Moines, IA

FLSA Status: Full-Time / Non-Exempt

Position Description. The Electrical Building Information Modelling (BIM) / Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Technician is a critical role for Baker Electric, Inc., a subsidiary of publicly traded EMCOR Group, Inc., and is located in Des Moines, IA. The position supports Electrical BIM/VDC Specialists in providing detailed drawings as assigned, throughout all lines of business at Baker Electric.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a BIM/VDC support team to achieve consistent results
  • Set up plot sheets, section views and details for projects
  • Produce accurate drawing sets using engineering, detailing and field mark-ups
  • Ensure detail design and construction documents accuracy based in BIM modelling
  • Adhere to BIM execution plan in relation to project flow and deadline dates
  • Print drawing sets for BIM team or project team when necessary
  • Monitor compliance with building codes
  • Confer with cross functional team to resolve problems, including clash detection with other trades
  • Participate in coordination meetings to assist in project updates as required for the assigned project(s)
  • Maintain confidentiality of work and any Baker Electric project knowledge
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to Project Manager(s) or Company leadership with recommendation for resolution
  • Read and understand construction documents such as architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical floor plans, section views and elevations.

    Preferred Education and Experience (Knowledge)
    • 1 - 2 years of experience of Autodesk Revit and Navisworks
    • Fundamental experience with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Architecture
    • High School diploma or GED required
    • Knowledge of lighting design, control systems, power distribution and life safety systems
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Required Attributes and Competencies (Skills)
      • Strong attention to detail and planning skills
      • Conscientiousness, personal responsibility, and dependability
      • Ability to adapt to an office environment and act in a principled, ethical fashion
      • Skilled in written and verbal communications
      • Must demonstrate ability to effectively organize multiple projects and resource planning skills
      • Must demonstrate ability to analyze and solve problems
      • Must demonstrate commitment to company values
      • Must be able to work effectively and independently in an office, construction trailer, or construction job site. This requires the ability to work at different locations, which may include driving between multiple work sites during the day or week.

        Language Skills

        Must have the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English, cooperate, and collaborate with multiple levels of employees and other professionals.

        Physical Requirements (Ability)

        While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work at a computer (reading and keying) for extended periods of time, to talk and hear, to move within the office, to retrieve files and to meet with employees in their offices or conference room, communicating verbally and in writing, one on one, in small groups, presenting work. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move p to twenty-five (25) pounds.

        The employee may be required to commute to field locations and project sites, and should be able to navigate around the job site location(s).

The employee should expect to sit for long periods in front of a computer, and to also travel to field locations as needed.

        While visiting field locations, the employee may be required to work outdoors, be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical and electrical parts; high, precarious places; dust, fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, extended exposure to sunlight; cold and heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

        Work from home is not an option for this position.
